On 20 August 2024, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has spoken out about the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of Law 8371, the purpose of which, according to many MPs, is to ban the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
In his statement, Zelensky noted “the work of the Verkhovna Rada” saying that “a law on our spiritual independence has been passed”.
“We will continue to strengthen Ukraine and our society,” Zelensky concluded, adding that he was waiting for the relevant documents to arrive from the Parliament.
As reported by the UOJ, the Verkhovna Rada passed Bill No 8371, banning the UOC.
