Poturaev reveals how to persuade Americans hindering UOC ban
The parliamentarian believes that the United States misunderstands the concept of Draft Law 8371.
Mykyta Poturaev, the head of the committee on humanitarian and information policy of the Verkhovna Rada from the "Servant of the People" faction, stated that members of the U.S. Republican Party are hindering the adoption of Draft Law No. 8371 aimed at banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, reports Glavcom.
He revealed that supporters of former President Trump skeptically view the adoption of Bill 8371 in the second reading, believing that the Rada wants to deal with the Church and its parishioners, not with the "Kremlin agents".
Poturaev complained that there are also deputies in the Ukrainian parliament who insist that the principle of collective responsibility cannot work in the case of banning the entire UOC.
"So next time, I will bring to the faction the openly anti-Ukrainian literature found in the Lavra. Its possession is not criminal, but everything is obvious there. And to our American colleagues who think 'it's not all that simple', I will show photos of tortured religious figures of various denominations. Maybe then their opinion will change. At least, we will work on it," he said.
As reported by the UOJ, earlier Poturaev announced a conciliation council in the Verkhovna Rada regarding Draft Law 8371.
