UK imposes sanctions against Patriarch Kirill

The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church has been added to the UK's new sanctions list.

On June 16, 2022, Britain announced new sanctions against Russian citizens. This time, Patriarch Kirill was added to the list, reports the official website of the UK government.

According to the report, the sanctions were imposed against the head of the Russian Orthodox Church for actively supporting the Russian military aggression in Ukraine.

Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine asked the NSDC to impose sanctions against Patriarch Kirill and some hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church.

As reported, the EU was planning to impose sanctions against the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, but the decision was blocked by Hungary.
