Volyn authorities initiate ban on UOC
The Volyn Regional Council will consider the issue of "building a united Orthodox independent Ukrainian church".
In the Volyn region, there has been registered a draft decision on the prohibition of the UOC activities, the abolition in accordance with the law of the Statute and state registration of religious communities of the UOC on the territory of Volyn region and "building a united Orthodox independent Ukrainian church”, reports “Konkurent”.
The draft decision was initiated by Ihor Lekh, the head of the faction of the political party "For the Future" and a deputy of the Regional Council, and Mykola Buliga from "Servants of the People".
The officials suggest addressing the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine with a demand to pass a law banning the activity of the UOC in Ukraine.
At the same time, the ruling bishops of the Volodymyr-Volyn and Volyn eparchies are urged to immediately leave the UOC and sit down at the negotiating table with representatives of the Orthodox Church.
We remind you that in March 2022 several draft laws were registered in the Verkhovna Rada that proposed to ban the activity of the UOC.
As reported, the Advisor to the Head of the President’s Office Mykhaylo Podolyak was critical of the idea to ban the UOC and urged not to speculate on the issue of faith.
