Lukashenko: We’re brothers with Russia and Ukraine, from one baptismal font
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko expressed hope that Ukraine would return to the fold of Slavdom.
On January 28, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said, addressing the Belarusian Parliament, that the West is pitting the Slavic peoples against each other. He also repeated that Ukraine should certainly return to the "fold of our Slavdom", reports RIA Novosti.
According to Lukashenko, Ukraine has become the object of behind-the-scenes trade-off.
"Ukrainians are pushed into the flames of conflict, their consciousness is broken, they are purposefully prepared for aggression. They are shaping a hostile attitude towards fraternal nations, including the Belarusians," he said in an address to the Parliament.
The President of Belarus believes that it is important for the West "to drown the Russian-Ukrainian brotherhood in blood" and therefore the ties of the Slavic peoples should be preserved.
"We are native Slavic peoples, coming from the same baptismal font. Our roots go back centuries, and we must preserve them, no matter what the cost, because brotherhood is much higher than far-fetched small-town political ambitions," said Alexander Lukashenko.
As earlier reported, Lukashenka promised to return Ukraine to the fold of "true faith".
