Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia: We will not change our position on the OCU
The Serbian Orthodox Church will continue to provide significant support to His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry.
The Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Porfirije, said that he would not change his position in relation to the OCU, the official website of the Serbian Patriarchate reports.
In an interview with International Affairs edition, Patriarch Porfirije said that the position of the Serbian Church on the issue of the OCU is “known” and it will not change.
“We will not change our position. We provide and will continue to provide significant support to Metropolitan Onuphry and his Church,” Patriarch Porfirije emphasized.
He noted that Ukraine, like Montenegro, experienced the collapse of a federal state, and “in this event, the enemies of Orthodoxy – and I would say the enemies of Christianity – saw an opportunity to split the autocephalous or autonomous Churches. Therefore, we understand well what is happening in Ukraine,” summed up the Primate of the Serbian Church.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia stated that his Church recognizes in Ukraine only the UOC led by Metropolitan Onuphry.
