Sviatoslav Shevchuk stressed the ecumenical dialogue between Catholics and Orthodox Christians is needed not just for cooperation, and this should be spoken out loudly.

The purpose of ecumenical dialogue is to restore communion, said the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Sviatoslav Shevchuk at the International Ecumenical Conference held on October 26 in Kyiv with the participation of the Uniates, representatives of the Phanar and the OCU.

According to him, after the creation of a joint international commission on the theological dialogue between Catholics and Orthodox in 1979, "the many ecumenical and other ties testify to our common desire to restore unity in communion".

“I think it says it all. The goal of ecumenical dialogue is not just to cooperate but to restore communion. We need to say loudly today that Orthodox and Catholics, Greek Catholics do not curse one another anymore, we consider ourselves brothers and sisters in Christ, we are looking for ways to restore the lost unity between Christians,” the head of the UGCC said.

As reported, a conference of the UGCC, Phanar and OCU on the search for unity was held in Kyiv.
