OCU declares striving for "one church" with Greek Catholics
Mikhail Zinkevich shared his vision of a certain united “church of the Ukrainian people”, where there will be no divisions into confessions.
In an interview with Pershy, "Metropolitan" Mikhail Zinkevich of Lutsk and Volyn of the OCU voiced the need to create a "single church of the Ukrainian people", where the OCU will unite with Greek Catholics and the UOC.
“We want to see a united church, where there will be no Moscow Patriarchate, no Greek Catholics, no OCU, but there will be one big Ukrainian church instead,” Zinkevich said. “Without all these names. It should be called the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. No additions, no modifications, no formats – just the church of the Ukrainian people, and that's it."
Commenting on the future unification with the Uniates, the “hierarch” cited the case in Canada as an example.
“This is the process of uniting both the Greek Catholic Church, as well as those of the MP and the OCU into a large, unified Ukrainian church. Let me refer to Canada, where the community of the Greek Catholic Church joined the OCU. This is the Cathedral, by the way. This is already a message, conscious decision-making by believers. There have been no such precedents before,” Zinkevich said.
We will remind, earlier Sergei Dumenko stated that the key to the union of the OCU and the UGCC lies in Rome and Constantinople.
