Cypriot hierarch: My non-recognizing OCU is a matter of conscience & canons
Metropolitan Athanasios of Limassol stressed that his position on the OCU is not dictated by personal preferences.
Metropolitan Athanasios of Limassol of the Cypriot Orthodox Church stated that his non-recognition of the OCU is a matter of conscience and the canons of the Church. Vladyka spoke about this in an interview with the “F” edition, reports Vima Orthodoxias.
Metropolitan Athanasios said that he did not agree with the Primate of the Church of Cyprus, Archbishop Chrysostomos, who recognized Epiphany Dumenko as the canonical primate of the Church in Ukraine.
At the same time, Vladyka emphasized that his position is not dictated by personal preferences since he is not familiar with either His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry or Dumenko.
“It was a question of conscience, a question of observing the Holy Canons of the Church,” said Metropolitan Athanasios.
As reported, according to Metropolitan Athanasios of Limassol, Epiphany Dumenko is not the canonical head of the Church in Ukraine.
