The city mayor is being called for explanations due to his signature on an appeal concerning the transfer of the Holy Spirit Monastery of Pochaiv Lavra to state ownership.

The Ternopil Regional Military Administration (RMA) has requested law enforcement to investigate the activities of the mayor of Pochaiv, Vasyl Boiko. This request is related to his appeal against a court decision that returned the buildings of the Pochaiv Lavra monastery to state ownership.

The head of the Ternopil RMA, Vyacheslav Nehoda, reported that Boiko personally signed the appeal, siding with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), which led to his being summoned to the administration for explanations. Nehoda believes that there may be signs of legal violations in the actions of the city council officials and the executive committee.

In response, Nehoda reached out to law enforcement to provide a legal assessment of Boiko’s activities and those of other officials. Additionally, the head of the Kremenets District State Administration has been instructed to strengthen oversight over the activities of the local self-government bodies of the Pochaiv territorial community.

As previously reported by the UOJ, the Pochaiv City Council and the UOC filed appeals against a court decision that returned the buildings of the Holy Spirit Monastery of the Holy Dormition Pochaiv Lavra to state ownership following a lawsuit by the Ternopil RMA. The appeals are scheduled to be reviewed on October 31.
