Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople said he did not intend to make any concessions regarding the "privileges and duties" of Phanar.

On June 11, 2021, the head of Phanar announced that the Patriarchate of Constantinople had received its "privileges and duties" from the apostles, this being not a subject for discussion or dialogue, reports the Romfea publication.

According to him, “we do not enter into a dialogue about what is self-evident and passed down in tradition. We do not enter into negotiations about the responsibilities of our Throne. We do not give up on them. We do not betray them."

He also stated he would not allow “the alienation of blessed ecclesiology, as it is described in the texts of our history,” and also would not allow “condescension, economy, politeness, some benevolent concessions ... which, unfortunately, some of my predecessors resorted to, dreaming of unity, but being far from the true and ancient ecclesiology."

The head of Phanar stressed he would not allow "to overthrow what God's Providence has built for the Throne of Constantinople."

“The Patriarchate of Constantinople is sacrifice, responsibility, unshakable service, but not playing with random interests and opportunistic sentiments in any historical situation. We received this from our fathers, and they, in turn, from their fathers, and those from the hands of the apostles,” summed up the head of Phanar.

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that Patriarch Bartholomew was surprised that some Local Churches doubt the privileges of Phanar.
