Rada does not support the appeal about RCC’s St. Nicholas Church in Kyiv
There were no votes for the appeal to transfer the cathedral to the religious community of the RCC.
The Verkhovna Rada failed to vote on a parliamentary request to the President of Ukraine regarding the transfer of the St. Nicholas Church in Kyiv to the religious community of the Roman Catholic Church, according to the website of the Institute for Religious Freedom.
According to the appeal, initiated by R. Tystyk and O. Savchuk, the state did not return the shrine to the Catholics, although it was promised back in 1991. The deputies argue that the Church of St. Nicholas was built with funds from loyal RCC believers, and its transfer to the religious community is eagerly awaited.
This parliamentary request was supported by 205 MPs instead of the required 226.
As reported by the UOJ, the Prime Minister of Ukraine assured that the Ministry of Culture would take all measures to transfer the St. Nicholas Church in Kyiv to the RСC community by May 1, 2024.
