Patriarch Bartholomew attends Iftar at Erdogan's invitation
Iftar is an evening meal during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.
On March 14, 2024, Patriarch Bartholomew of Conastantinople, accompanied by the Elder Metropolitan Apostolos of Derkoi, attended the Ramadan (Iftar) dinner upon the invitation of the ruling AK Party, as reported by Orthodox Times.
The event took place at the conference center of the headquarters of the AK Party in Ankara and was attended by 500 guests, including President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, ministers, senior state officials and ambassadors from many countries.
In 2023, the Patriarch participated in the "meal of unity and brotherhood", which is held every 35 years when Islamic Ramadan, Christian Easter, and Jewish Passover coincide.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the head of the Archdiocese of America discussed a "path to unity" with the UGCC head.
