The legislative initiative will be prepared and submitted to the Parliament in the next two weeks.

In Georgia, the ruling Georgian Dream party will initiate a law banning LBGTQ propaganda, Tbilisi Life reports. According to party leader Mamuka Mdinaradze, the law will "protect society from pseudo-liberal ideology and its inevitable harmful consequences".

"The law will fully comply with the principles and norms stipulated by the Constitution of Georgia. The rights of each of our citizens must and will be protected, regardless of lifestyle. However, purposeful propaganda of non-traditional lifestyle is something for which we are responsible before the Georgian society and its future," he stated.

Mdinaradze stressed that 90% of the Georgian population is against holding "pride" parades in the country and perceives it as propaganda. In his opinion, this propaganda has nothing to do with human rights protection.

"The parliamentary majority believes that we should actively oppose this propaganda and use legislative mechanisms for this purpose," he summarised.

After the announcement of this legislative initiative, the leader of the far-right party "Alt-Info" Zurab Makharadze said that if there are protests and rallies against this law banning LGBT propaganda, they are ready to go out on the street and defend it.

As reported, earlier the hierarch of the Georgian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Anthony (Bulukhia) of Vani and Baghdati, accused the USA and Europe of funding the opposition, non-governmental organisations and media outlets that promote LGBT people and sow hatred against the Church.
