Thousands of Ukrainian refugees have received aid from the charity organisation Diaconia Social Mission.

A Moldovan charity organisation from the Romanian Patriarchate has published information about the assistance provided in 2023.

According to data published on social media, Diaconia Social Mission participated in the distribution of financial assistance from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). 50,000 refugees received this assistance.

Also, through the St. Anne Multifunctional Centre for Child and Family, Diaconia Social Mission provided the following forms of assistance, in its majority for refugees:

  • 4452 refugees sought help and support;
  • 619 people received psychological counselling;
  • 926 women from Ukraine communicated in a safe environment, attending various creative workshops organised by a psychologist;
  • 1504 families from the Republic of Moldova received food and hygiene products;
  • 258 children benefited from rendition services (68 Moldovan children and 190 Ukrainian children);
  • 473 children benefited from post-school education services (147 Moldovan and 326 Ukrainian children);
  • 294 benefited from legal counselling.

The organisation also provided long-term housing for nine refugee mothers and their children (18 people), and four refugee children attended the Gâgâlici Early Education Centre.

Diaconia Social Mission is a charitable organisation of the Metropolitan Church of Bessarabia, a member of the Federation of Charities, the only federated non-governmental organisation in the Romanian Patriarchate.

As earlier reported, St. Nicholas’s Church was transferred to the Romanian Patriarchate in Chisinau.
