The Russian Church called the RCC's Declaration "Fiducia supplicans" "a sharp departure from Christian moral teaching".

On 20 February 2024, the Russian Orthodox Church held a meeting of the Synodal Biblical and Theological Commission, headed by its chairman, Metropolitan Hilarion of Budapest and Hungary, the website of the Moscow Patriarchate reports.

By order of Patriarch Kirill, the commission members discussed the text of the Declaration "Fiducia supplicans" adopted by the RCC Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, which speaks of the pastoral blessing of LGBT couples.

The commission concluded that "this innovation reflects a sharp departure from Christian moral teaching".

The commission's conclusions have been referred to Patriarch Kirill of the ROC for consideration.

As earlier reported, the Pope commented on the document on the blessing of same-sex couples.
