Church of Albania does not change its stance on OCU
The Albanian Church denied the statement of Sergei (Epiphany) Dumenko that it is allegedly ready to recognize the OCU.
The office of Archbishop Anastasios said that the Albanian Orthodox Church had not changed its position on the OCU and the church schism in Ukraine, orthochristian.com reports.
The Albanian Church denied the recent claim of the “Primate” of the OCU Epiphany Dumenko that following the Church of Cyprus, where the Primate unilaterally announced the recognition of the OCU, other Churches, including the Albanian Church, will come next.
“I am surprised by this news,” said a spokesman for the archbishop's office. “I don't know where this is coming from. The Synod of the Albanian Church has not made a decision about this (recognition of the OCU – editor’s note).”
According to the representative of the Albanian Church, nothing has changed since then and no new decisions have been made on the OCU.
“Everything that has to do with this issue has already been said by the Synod of the Church and is on our website. There is nothing new to add. Nothing has changed since then,” the representative of the Albanian Church reiterated in a comment to orthochristian.com.
Recall that Epiphany Dumenko's claim on the recognition of the OCU has already been refuted by the Romanian, Bulgarian, and also the Georgian Orthodox Church.
Earlier the UOJ reported that His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios and the Synod of the Albanian Church made statements criticizing the unilateral actions of Constantinople in Ukraine.
