At the U.S. Department of Health, LGBT representative Rachel Levine will handle coronavirus issues.

On January 19, Joe Biden announced his decision to nominate transgender Rachel Levine as an assistant head of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, The Washington Post reports.

Levine is the head of the Pennsylvania Department of Health and will be the first transgender federal official to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

Biden said she would "bring the steady leadership and essential expertise we need to get people through this pandemic — no matter their zip code, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability — and meet the public health needs of our country in this critical moment and beyond.”

As it was earlier reported, Biden said that an 8-year-old child has the right to be transgender.
