US State Department: Patriarchate of Constantinople is our key partner
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo believes that the Patriarchate of Constantinople is "the leader of the Orthodox world".
On November 17, 2020, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called the Patriarchate of Constantinople a "key partner" of the United States, reports "Romfea".
After the meeting with Patriarch Bartholomew, which took place at the residence of the Phanar head, the US Secretary of State said that he was "honoured" to meet with Patriarch Bartholomew I and visit the Patriarchal Church of St. George.
The head of the State Department stressed that "the Ecumenical Patriarchate, as the leader of the Orthodox world, is a key partner (of the USA – Ed.), as we continue to defend freedom of religion throughout the world".
As reported earlier, the Phanar called the visit of the US Secretary of State "a source of joy and honor for the Mother Church".
