The pontiff clarified his position on "great Russia," stating that in the war, he stands with the "Ukrainian people".

Pope Francis held a meeting with the bishops of the UGCC in the Vatican, where he reassured the Greek Catholics of his solidarity and prayerful support, and declared that in the war, he stands with the "Ukrainian people." This was reported by the UGCC press service.

As confirmation of his words of solidarity with Ukraine, the Pope brought an icon of the Virgin Mary to the meeting, which was given to him by the head of the UGCC, Sviatoslav Shevchuk, in the past.

He mentioned that he prays before it every day for Ukraine and considers it a special gesture and a symbol of closeness to the Ukrainian people.

In turn, representatives of the UGCC thanked the pontiff for his efforts aimed at supporting Ukraine on the international level. In particular, the bishops emphasized the importance of Cardinal Matteo Zuppi's mission, who visited Kyiv and Moscow to implement the Vatican's plan for ending the war in Ukraine.

As reported by the UOJ, Pope Francis referred to Russia as a country of great culture and great humanity.

We also reported that the head of the UGCC stated that Ukraine does not understand the Pope after his statements about "great Russia".
