Due to the coronavirus, fewer pilgrims will be allowed to celebrate Rosh Hashanah in Uman.

On August 25, at a meeting with the President, it was decided to significantly limit visits to Uman for pilgrims to celebrate Rosh Hashanah. The reasons are the increase in the incidence of COVID-19 and the request of the Prime Minister of Israel.

However, it is still unknown how exactly the number of Hasidim will be limited.

On the same day, Vladimir Zelensky met with representatives of the Jewish community and asked them, for their part, to help avoid a mass gathering of pilgrims, reports the President’s press service. As an example, the head of state cited the restrictions that affected Christian Easter this year.

The rabbis said they would do their best to convey the President's message to the faithful. The chief rabbi of Kiev,Jacob Dov Bleich, called for restrictions not only for foreigners but also for domestic pilgrims.

As reported earlier, the Hasidim demand the return of the relics of Tzaddik Rabbi Nachman from Uman to Israel.
