UOC church closed in Lviv region over "public appeal"

The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the UOC in the village of Vidnev, Lviv region, has been sealed.

On April 10, 2023, the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (UOC) in the village of Vidnev, Lviv region, was closed "until the end of the war". The corresponding order was published on Facebook by the press service of the Kulykiv village council.

In the document, the head of the village council, Lilia Bova, noted that the UOC church was sealed on the basis of "the villagers’ appeal" and also because of the "social and political situation in the state".

Bova ordered to set up a commission which would conduct "an inventory of the material assets of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

At the same time, the rector of the church, Archpriest Georgy Farat, told "KozakTv1" that the religious community he leads and he personally have not defected to the OCU but remain faithful to the UOC headed by His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry.

As reported, the UOC church in Boryslav was sealed after parishioners refused to defect to the OCU.
