Greek Foreign Minister discusses Hagia Sophia issue with U.S. Ambassador

The U.S. Ambassador to Greece said he was deeply disappointed with Turkey's decision on changing Hagia Sophia’s status.

Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias on Wednesday had a meeting with U.S. Ambassador in Athens Geoffrey Pyatt, reports Аmna.gr.

As reported, the meeting was held at the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was dedicated to the US-Greece strategic dialogue, regional events and the Church of Hagia Sophia. 

"Important discussion with Minister Nikos Dendias on our shared objectives for regional stability, our shared interests in the western Balkans, and planning for the next US-Greece Strategic Dialogue. Also reiterated our deep disappointment with Turkey's decision on #HagiaSophia," the U.S. ambassador later tweeted about the meeting.

Earlier, the Greek Foreign Ministry complained about Turkey to the European Union due to Hagia Sophia.
