Poturaev: With Pochaiv Lavra, we will follow the path of Kyiv Lavra
The MP said that certain bills, directed against the UOC, might be voted on immediately after Easter.
On April 7, 2023, MP from the Servant of the People faction, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy Nikita Poturaev said that the authorities intend to follow the same path with the Pochaiv Lavra as with the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
On the air of Radio Svoboda, answering a journalist’s question about whether the scenario of the Kyiv Lavra would be applied to other sanctuaries, in particular, to the Pochaiv Lavra, Poturaev said that the committee he heads “just voted” for the draft resolution, which “strongly recommends” the Cabinet of Ministers to approach the Pochaiv Lavra “in the same way that the state did with the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.”
He said that MPs had prepared several bills designed to give legal status to everything that happens to the UOC.
Poturaev would very much like these drafts to be voted on before Easter, “but there are nuances in the ongoing developments and the specifics of the work of the Verkhovna Rada.”
Therefore, he says, “such a gift may not arrive precisely on Easter. Well, then I hope that one of these laws will be voted on after Easter.”
As the UOJ wrote earlier, Poturaev assumed that the Lavra issue would have to be resolved in court.
