The authorities deliberately fuel the situation around the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra on the background of the impasse in the war, said the political expert.

Director of the Ukrainian Institute of Politics Ruslan Bortnik in an interview with TV presenter and blogger Oleksandr Shelest said that the example of the UOC shows that the law in Ukraine does not work.

"The law does not work, even the current one, to which there are many complaints. Only state authorities should have the right to violence, all other people who use violence should be held accountable before the law and the state. I especially do not understand when violence is used under patriotic slogans. If a person loves his state, why do they violate its law and Constitution? It means that they love not their state, their Homeland but themselves and their ideas, they are not patriots," the politologist said.

Bortnik believes that the authorities are deliberately inflating the situation around the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra against the background of the impasse in the war.

"This is what reason you should have! What do we observe every day under the Lavra?! This is a Maidan. It is physically small because it has no political support, but it is in the heads, it is now being discussed in every kitchen. There is an internal Maidan in the rear. What for? It makes us weaker. Nothing to do? Or maybe they just turned this story into another scapegoat against the background of corruption and the impasse in the war. No one can do more harm to our country than these homegrown herostratuses," he continued.

According to him, the persecution of the UOC is a purely political order.

"Who of the UOC has been convicted in court? Has the verdict come into force? Where are the specific criminal cases with evidence? Not drunken conversations in the kitchen, but with evidence of wrongdoing. These are purely political games that are detrimental to our country. At least there should be law in the country at some point. If there is no law in the country, there will be no country," he concluded.

As reported, an expert said that the persecution of the UOC was a fatal mistake by Zelenskyy.
