Traditional cross processions cancelled due to quarantine in UOC eparchies

Vinnytsia and Chernivtsi-Bukovina Eparchies of the UOC postponed traditional prayer processions, annually gathering thousands of believers, for next year.

Because of the ongoing quarantine restrictions imposed in Ukraine due to the threat of the coronavirus spread, UOC eparchies cancelled traditional religious processions to Kalynivka, Vinnytsia region, and to the Khreshchatyk Monastery, Chernivtsi region.

According to the press service of the Vinnytsia Eparchy, with the blessing of Metropolitan Varsonofy of Vinnytsia and Bar, the cross procession to the Kalynivka miraculous cross was postponed until next year. At the same time, on July 6 the Bishop's Divine Liturgy will be celebrated in the church of Kalynivka, where the miraculous cross stands. The meeting of the bishop is scheduled for 8:45, the service begins at 9:00 a.m.

The cross procession to the Khreshchatyk Monastery of the UOC, which is annually held in the Chernivtsi-Bukovina Eparchy, was also cancelled and postponed for next year.

“Unfortunately, in connection with the ongoing quarantine in the Chernivtsi region, the traditional annual cross procession to the St. John the Evangelist Monastery of vlg. Khreschatyk of the Zastavna district is postponed for next year,” the eparchy’s press service said on its Facebook page.

As reported, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal said how long the quarantine restrictions in Ukraine will last.
