Ministry of Culture begins checking safety of "exhibits" in Kyiv Caves Lavra
The access of believers to the Upper Lavra Caves has already been terminated.
A commission organized by the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy began its work on the territory of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. Its task is to check the safety of "cultural exhibits", reports strana.today.
Members of the commission declined to comment.
The access of believers to the Upper Caves of the Lavra has already been terminated, the Lower Caves are still open.
As the UOJ reported, on March 20, the monastery received a letter from the leadership of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra Reserve notifying about the start of the work of the commission, which will determine "the presence, safety and state of storage of cultural property." In this regard, access to the caves, as well as to the churches of Exaltation of the Cross, the Conception of St. Anna and to the church in honor of the Synaxis of All the Reverend Kyiv Caves Fathers will be prohibited.
Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Culture, Oleksandr Tkachenko, said that a separate audit of "museum exhibits, including the relics of saints" would be carried out in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
