Phanar hierarch in US: Joining protests is my duty as a Greek and Christian
Archbishop Elpidophoros said that he took part in protests provoked by the murder of George Floyd, since this is his duty of the Greek and Christian.
On June 22, 2020, the Head of the Archbishopric of the Patriarchate of Constantinople in the United States, Archbishop Elpidophoros (Lambriniadis), said that participation in the protest in connection with the murder of George Floyd is his duty as a Greek and Christian. It is reported by Vima orthodoxias.
“As a person and as an archbishop, I must tell you that my decision to take part in a peaceful protest march for equality was not just a choice but my duty as a Christian and Greek. Each of us has our own voice, but when we unite with our fellow citizens, with our brothers, we can create a harmonious entity and talk about fundamental human values,” said the hierarch.
He also noted that "not everyone who participated in this march was unanimous." “This is understandable,” he added, explaining that the protesters called for “an end to racism in America and equality”.
As reported by the UOJ, earlier Archbishop Elpidophoros said that the murder of George Floyd brought the Americans closer to justice, and his death, albeit unnecessary, was not in vain.
