LGBT-flag flying on “Motherland” monument in Kyiv
Representatives of the LGBT community, using a drone, “decorated” the sculpture with a rainbow flag and recorded it on video.
On June 21, 2020, KyivPride activists published a video in which the symbol of Kyiv – the sculpture "Motherland" located on the territory of the Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II, holds in its right hand a flying LGBT-flag. The video with #momwillunderstandandsupport hashtag was posted on the community page on Facebook.
“The Motherland stands for equality for all! The big LGBT + flag is waving today all over Kiev,” the LGBT community said in their statement.
The video was captured by drone. The protesters launched a drone with a flag attached to the sky and created an illusion that the right hand of the sculpture is holding the rainbow banner of LGBT people instead of the sword.
The action was condemned by the MP from the “Opposition platform – For life” faction Oleg Voloshin.
“Given all that, comrades with respective deviations are surprised that people do not understand them,” the MP wrote on his Facebook page. “Sometimes this lack of understanding is even painful to them. I’m lost for words. This occurred on the eve of June 22! To convert the symbol of the Motherland, which lost millions of sons and daughters (during the Great Patriotic War – Ed.), into an image of the unfortunate woman whom deviant children expect to be supportive is not mere blasphemy – this is idiocy. Today, its authors have made the lives of their "associates" much tougher. It was hard to hurt people more, even if tomorrow they attach their flag to the cross of St. Sophia Cathedral.”
As reported by the UOJ, Ukrainians are offered to support the “tolerance manifesto” for LGBT people.
