U.S. Embassy in Ukraine condemns threats against LGBT activists in Kyiv
The U.S. Embassy in Ukraine opposed threats against the LGBT community, in particular, members of the public movement “KyivPride”.
On June 17, 2020, the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine issued a statement against threats and intimidation against representatives of the LGBT public movement “KyivPride”, reports the press service of the Embassy on Twitter.
"We condemn recent threats and intimidation against Kyiv Pride. All LGBTI individuals deserve the right to freely enjoy their human rights and fundamental freedoms," the statement said.
Last Sunday in downtown Kyiv, 15 radical right-wing activists from “Tradition and Order” beat up two girls who tried to remove posters with the inscriptions "God and Homeland," "Tradition, Family, Order," and the image of an LGBT rainbow flag cut with a sword.
As reported, earlier the Verkhovna Rada rejected the draft laws on liability for the criticism of LGBT members.
