The pontiff believes that non-traditional relationships are as much a sin as a lack of mercy for each other.

Pope Francis has stated that he does not consider non-traditional relationships a crime. He made this statement in an interview with the Associated Press.

"Being homosexual isn’t a crime. It is not a crime, yes, but it is a sin. Okay, but first you have to make a distinction between sin and crime. It is also a sin to have no mercy for one another," the pontiff argues.

The RCC leader called laws criminalising homosexuality unfair and urged Catholic bishops who support the laws to welcome LGBTQ people into the church.
