Chancellor reports of how many churches destroyed and priests killed in UOC

In 2022, 7 clerics of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church have been killed, and 75 churches and 8 monasteries have been destroyed.

The UOC Chancellor, Metropolitan Anthony (Pakanich) of Boryspil and Brovary, said in a report published on news.church.ua how many churches have been destroyed and priests killed in the UOC since the beginning of the war.

"Unfortunately, during the armed confrontation there have been victims among the clergy and monks of our Church, and many temples and monasteries of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church have been destroyed. As of the end of 2022, 7 clergymen of the UOC were killed and 12 more clergymen were injured. Two of our clerics are considered missing," the UOC hierarch noted.

"75 temples and prayer premises were destroyed, 14 of them were located in monasteries. Most of the destroyed temples were in the territory of the Donetsk Eparchy – 35 and 17 in the territory of the Severodonetsk Eparchy. A total of 300 churches were damaged by shelling, of which 17 are located in monasteries. Most of the temple structures were damaged in the territory of the Donetsk Eparchy – 69, the Severodonetsk Eparchy – 46, the Horlivka Eparchy – 28, the Kharkiv Eparchy – 26, the Mykolaiv Eparchy – 23, the Izium Eparchy – 21, the Sumy Eparchy – 17 and the Kyiv Eparchy – 16," he added.

"In addition, 8 monastic cloisters – all in the territory of the Donetsk Eparchy – were destroyed due to military operations. 7 monasteries were damaged," Metropolitan Anthony concluded.
