Patriarch Theophilos invites head of Antiochian Church to Council in Jordan
Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem invited Patriarch John of Antioch to the Council of Primates to resolve the issue of the OCU.
On December 28, 2019, Antioch Patriarch John X received a letter from Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem with an invitation to the Council of Primates of Orthodox Churches planned in Jordan to resolve the “Ukrainian issue”, reports the Greek edition “Romfea”.
It is reported that in the patriarchal residence in Damascus, a meeting was held between Patriarch John and Archbishop Christopher Kyriakopoulos, a representative of the Patriarch of Jerusalem in Amman.
Vladyka Christopher handed to the Patriarch of Antioch an invitation from the Patriarch of Jerusalem to the Council of Primates to “preserve Orthodox unity”, which is now collapsing because of the “Ukrainian issue”.
In turn, Patriarch John X reiterated the position of the Antioch Church, voiced by the Holy Synod of the Antioch Patriarchate, which had previously advocated the need for a meeting of the heads of the Local Orthodox Churches for a joint solution of Orthodox issues.
As reported earlier, Archpriest Nikolai Balashov, deputy head of the ROC Department for External Church Relations, confirmed the information that Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem proposed holding an All-Orthodox meeting of the Local Churches' Primates in February 2020.
