The ban on the LGBT community to carry out their activities is contrary to the Constitution of Ukraine and violates human rights, the official said.

The head of the Chernovtsy Regional State Administration, Aleksey Kaspruk, is going to veto the decision to ban LGBT events in Chernovtsy, because he is sure that such a ban is contrary to the Constitution of Ukraine and violates human rights, reports the online edition “LIGA. News".

“I am in a difficult situation because I understand that my opponents will inflate this situation – that the city head is a sympathizer of the LGBT community, so he vetoes this decision. On the other hand, I understand that there are laws of Ukraine and the Constitution that prohibit discrimination,” said Kaspruk.

He also recalled the decision of the European Court of Human Rights regarding the ban on holding an LGBT march in Moscow. The European Court then ruled that such a ban violates international agreements.

On the Facebook page of the online resource “UA: Bukovyna”, it is reported that a draft decision is being prepared at the city hall to be submitted to the City Council on Thursday.

We recall that on October 31, 24 deputies of the Chernovtsy City Council supported a petition banning LGBT community events in the city. The author of the petition, the local lawyer and social activist Nikolay Gunko is sure that with such a ban, local deputies, on the contrary, defend the Constitution of Ukraine. “I greet the Chernovtsy community with another victory on the moral front and sincerely thank each deputy who voted for introducing into the Statute of the territorial community of the city a moratorium on holding LGBT events for the duration of Article 51 of the Constitution of Ukraine, taking into account the provisions of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Together we will defend the Constitution of Ukraine!” he thanked the local deputies for their decision.
