On Victory Day, UOC Primate holds memorial service for the fallen in GPW
His Beatitude Onufry performed a memorial service for those who fell during the Great Patriotic War at the Monument of Eternal Glory in the city of Kiev.
On May 9, 2019, on the Victory Day over the Nazi invaders, at the stele on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the territory of the Park of Eternal Glory in Kiev, Primate of the UOC Metropolitan Onufry of Kiev and All Ukraine held a religious service for the died during the Great Patriotic War, reports the UOC Information and Educational Department.
Monastics of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, the clergy of the Kiev Eparchy, students of the Kiev Theological Academy and Seminary and believers walked to the place of the memorial service with a prayer in a cross procession.
Metropolitan Anthony (Pakanich) of Borispol and Brovary, Chancellor of the UOC, Metropolitan Pavel (Lebed) of Vyshgorod and Chernobyl, abbot of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, and the clergy of the Kiev Eparchy concelebrated with His Beatitude Onufry.
After the prayer, the head of the UOC together with the bishops and clergy laid flowers to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and called for God's blessing on the veterans of the Great Patriotic War.
On May 9, Ukraine marks the 74th anniversary of the victory over Nazism in World War II.
