UOC Ivano-Frankovsk eparchy clarifies why UGCC occupies church in Kolomyia
The head of the Ivano-Frankovsk eparchy of the UOC Bishop Tikhon has appealed to the regional state administration to clarify the basis for the Uniates to occupy the Annunciation Church in Kolomyia.
The regional state administration was sent a request for information about the current owners of the temple, reports a UOJ correspondent.
According to the law, the eparchy of the UOC should receive an answer by May 25.
The need to appeal to the authorities arose after the representatives of the UGCC had announced in the media that the conflict around the Annunciation Church in Kolomyia was over, the temple was now theirs, and they intended to turn it into a "spiritual pysanka". Reportedly, the new rector of the church, the Greek Catholic priest Andrey Tanasiychuk, has also been appointed.
On October 18, 2017, a group of chaplains of the UGCC, with the support of right-wing radical forces, seized the church in Kolomyia. To stop clashes of believers the police sealed the temple.
The UOJ is following the developments.
