Priests of Rovno UOC diocese are awarded for preservation of wooden churches
The seminar was attended by diocesan secretary Archpriest Alexander Yegorov, press-secretary Hegumen German (Kulakevich) and fifty diocese’s clerics who are senior priests of ancient wooden churches.
The seminar was initiated by NGO “Ukrainian Modernism Institute”.
The main aim of the project, according to the organizers, is a willing to draw attention of the general public to the problem of preservation of wooden church-building heritage of the region.
Archpriest Alexander Yegorov, secretary of Rovno diocese and senior priest of St. Catherine temple in Zdolbuniv city, spoke to attendees on behalf of the clergy. He sent the greeting and blessing of the ruling hierarch Metropolitan Bartholomew, expressed the opinion of senior clergy and parishioners regarding the preservation of the church architecture as well as problems with funding for restoration work.
After the welcome speech of the museum director Alexander Bulyga there was an award distribution among the senior priests “For preservation of architectural authenticity of the church.”
At the end of the seminar the priests had a possibility to ask questions and engage in a conversation with scholars and experts in the field of architecture.
Wooden churches of Rovno region constitute a unique cultural heritage of Ukraine. Across the territory there are over 200 wooden temples, 136 of which enjoy the status of architectural landmarks of national and local significance.
