Thessaloniki Students Returned to the Place an Icon of Christ Removed by the Dean
Students of the Faculty of Theology of the University of Thessaloniki, on their own initiative, have returned to its place an icon of Christ, removed from the entrance to the building of the Faculty by order of the new dean Miltiades Constantine, reports Agionoros.ru.
"We, students of the Faculty of Theology, have returned to its rightful place a lectern with an icon of our Lord Jesus Christ. We demand from the dean's office not to move an icon from this place. We demand to respect the opinion of the majority of the students," said the students in their statement.
According to them, the moment of return to its rightful place of the icon of the Savior was particularly moving, when all the students sang "Blessed art Thou, O Christ our God."
Until February 2016 the icon was on the ground floor near the entrance to the university, but by order of the dean, it was moved to the fourth floor, to the university church. The decision of the new dean of the Theological Faculty of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Miltiades Constantine caused a wide resonance in Greece.
Then, the former dean of the Faculty of Theology said that "the transfer of the icon may set a bad example, since it opens the possibility to remove icons in other public buildings."
