Rector of UOC community in Belgium: The Church should have its own language

The rector of the UOC community in Belgium, Archpriest Dimitry Popescu, said that in the Church, it is necessary to use a language for prayer and services that is not used in everyday life. He said this during an interview with journalist Evelina Berezanskaya, who posted it on her Facebook page.

“I love my country so much that I am ready to give everything for it, I love the Ukrainian language and always speak it. However, the Church must have something of its own. Each person opens his heart to God in their own way. There should be a liturgical language that is not used in everyday life,” Fr Dimitry shared his thoughts.

As an example, the rector of the UOC community in Brussels cited the Romanian Church.

“It uses the Old Romanian language for prayers, people do not speak this language, and this is not a problem for believers. This is also the case with the Old Church Slavonic language – today no one speaks it, it remains only for the use of the Church, we pray in this language,” added the cleric of the UOC.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that, according to the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, believers who cannot pray in Ukrainian are deprived of the opportunity to satisfy their spiritual needs.
