Zelenskyy calls on Church to help children affected by war

On 8 August, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree on the establishment of the Coordinating Council for Child Protection and Safety, which called on the Church to help children who have been affected by the war. The document was published on the website of the head of State.

The guarantor proposes "to develop proposals for the establishment of cooperation with civil society institutions, including public associations, religious organisations, as well as with international organisations in order to solve the issues of protecting the rights of children under martial law and promoting their involvement in the protection of children who have suffered from the war".

The Child Protection Council has been set up as an advisory and consultative body. The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine is the head of the Coordination Council.

The Coordinating Council will also monitor the situation of children who have been deported from the Ukrainian territory by Russia, as well as those who have been evacuated from the war zone to the west.

As earlier reported, Zelenskyy reacted to a petition with a request to legalize same-sex marriage.
