Orthodox MP opposes legalisation of same-sex marriage in Ukraine

People's deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Artem Kultenko explained why he opposes the legalization of same-sex marriage in Ukraine on his Facebook page.

The MP assessed the "prospect" of legalizing LGBT marriages, noting that the initiative would not have support from society.

"First of all, such changes are difficult to make. I don't see it being realistic to gather votes. And don't we have anything to do? War, economy, people without shelter, every day civilians and military citizens of our country die. My vote will definitely be against such initiatives. I have never supported and will never support such a thing! I will not judge the sins of others, it is their personal business, but I will not vote for such a "norm" that destroys the spirituality of the very word ‘marriage’," he said.

Artem Kultenko spoke about the speculation supporters of the legalization of same-sex marriage resort to.

"Speculation regarding those who are are at the front with a threat to life, and that there is no other way. Inheritance and will are easy to arrange with a notary, just like all other powers of attorney. This is manipulation. Speculation about the EU. There is no legalisation of same-sex marriage in most European countries. Ukraine must and will keep its moral traditions," the MP said and called for real help to the country and its citizens.

"Considering all of the above, think about who benefits from these 'discussions' and shaking things for society now? To sow discord and force the majority of citizens to think about things that are not really important? Certainly not Ukraine itself. Instead, let us do some real help for our country and our citizens. Let us bring peace inside the country as much as we fight for freedom. It will be a God-pleasing cause. And marriage and family are a gift of God, which teach us how to love and care for and educate new generations. And our spirituality and our future depend on what it will be," resumed Artem Kultenko.

As earlier reported, an Orthodox MP explained why he opposes LGBT marches.
