All Saints Skete of Sviatogorsk Lavra caught fire as result of shelling

On June 4, 2022, as a result of hostilities, a large-scale fire broke out on the territory of the All Saints Skete of the Holy Dormition Sviatogorsk Lavra, reports news.church.ua.

The flame completely engulfed the main temple of the monastery, there is no information about the dead and injured at the moment.

The Skete of All Saints burnt today in Sviatogorsk is considered a monument of wooden architecture. It is located at some distance, on the top of a mountain, not far from the monument to Artyom, but is part of the Lavra complex.

The temples of the skete were assembled by local carpenters from massive pine logs and decorated with carvings in the traditions of ancient Russian architecture of the 16th-17th centuries. Nearby are wooden cells. The skete is enclosed by a wooden paling with a hewn gate and corner towers, which were supposed to be reminiscent of epic times.

Historically, there were stone places of worship on this site, but they fell into disrepair after 1945.

The construction of the skete began in 2001 and continued throughout the decade. The All Saints Church, central to the skete, was completed in 2009.

It was the largest wooden church in Ukraine.
