Ivano-Frankivsk: Transfiguration Church demolished, UOC community evicted

On the morning of February 14, a team of workers began to demolish the premises in Chernovil Street in Ivano-Frankivsk, which house the Transfiguration Church, reports kurs.if.ua. Moreover, the officials signed a demolition contract on the same day.

"The contract for demolition services on the territory of the former kindergarten at Chernovil Street, 6, 6a, 6b, 6c, was signed by the City Department of Education and Science with entrepreneur Taras Timishak on February 14," the publication reports.

The Prozorro public procurement website states that the cost of the work to dismantle the building is UAH 49,900.

As reported, on 7 February, bailiffs evicted parishioners of the Transfiguration Church from the premises despite the UN ruling. A few days later, city officials decided to demolish the building. Initially, they justified their actions by the fact that they were planning to build a kindergarten in this place, but the director of the Ivano-Frankivsk Department of Education and Science admitted that even the design estimates were not ready for the construction of the institution. Meanwhile, the parishioners were left on the street and are now raising funds to buy land for the construction of a temple.
