On September 28, in the Dormition Zymne Convent in Volyn, UOC bishops held a funeral service for Colonel Oleksandr Mykytiuk, who died on the front line after sustaining fatal injuries during enemy shelling. This was reported by the press service of the Zhytomyr Diocese.

It is noted that Oleksandr Mykytiuk dedicated nearly his entire life to serving in law enforcement. During the full-scale Russian invasion, he served as an advisor to the former Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valeriy Zaluzhny, and held a senior position in the Military Law Enforcement Service.

The funeral service for the fallen soldier was led by Metropolitan Nikodim of Zhytomyr and Novohrad-Volynskyi, concelebrated by Metropolitan Volodymyr of Volodymyr-Volynskyi and Kovel, Bishop Arkadiy of Hostomel, and UOC clergy.

"It is worth noting that Metropolitan Nikodim had been friends with Oleksandr Yevheniyovych for many years; they always kept in touch and supported each other. After the memorial prayer, the bishop expressed his condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and comrades of the fallen Defender," the report said.

Oleksandr Mykytiuk was 56 years old. He is survived by his wife and two sons.

As reported earlier by the UOC, Metropolitan Augustin conducted the funeral service for a soldier who was the son of the UOC Fund director.
