With the help of Law 8371, which actually bans the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, other religious denominations hope to ‘reap the benefits’, said political scientist and historian Ruslan Bortnik in an interview with journalist Oleksandr Shelest.

“They hope for an overflow of believers, in particular those who go to church every week. And a huge financial redistribution is expected: after all, the UOC is huge material assets, buildings, movable and immovable property. A huge redistribution may happen in the future, not earlier than in 10 months,” said the expert.

Also, Bortnik predicts the intensification of seizures and transfer of churches of the UOC to another jurisdiction after the adoption of Law 8371.

Earlier Bortnik said that after the adoption of Law 8371, no denomination in Ukraine will be safe, as almost all of them have their centre of influence abroad.
