On July 25, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry, in a sermon made during the Divine Liturgy at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, said that demons are cowardly and deceitful, so you should not be afraid of them, report news.church.ua.
The Primate of the UOC focused on the instructive aspects of the Gospel parable about the healing of demon-possessed men and the driving out of the legion of demons (Matt. 8: 28–9: 1).
According to His Beatitude, this gospel story reveals the true intentions of demons in relation to man.
“The demon does not want good for a person, although he is hiding under good reasons, words, ideas, etc. When the demons were sent into the herd of pigs, the pigs did not run into the desert but rushed into the sea and drowned. That is, the demons did not regret the pigs, still less they spare man and every creation of God. Therefore, we must know about this,” said the Primate of the UOC.
His Beatitude Onuphrius noted that one should not be fear demons because they have no power.
“They have impudence, cowardice, and this is not strength, this is a lie. Both impudence and cowardice, and a lie are the product of pride. One should not fear a lie, one should fear the Truth, God, Who really has power and authority. The Lord has power over life and death, over every creation,” resumed the Primate of the UOC.
