Pope Francis called on countries engaged in conflicts to establish a truce during the Olympic Games in Paris, reports Arguments. He suggests doing so out of respect for the ancient Greek tradition.

"According to a long-standing tradition, let the Olympics be an opportunity to establish a truce in wars, demonstrating a sincere desire for peace," he said.

The head of the Vatican stated that he sees great social power in sports, which can peacefully unite people from different cultures, and that athletes can become ambassadors of peace and role models for young people.

It is worth noting that the tradition of halting wars during the Olympic Games, as was practiced in ancient Greece, was revived in 1990.

As reported by the UOJ, Cardinal Parolin in Ukraine stated that he would discuss peace with Zelensky.
