The Church in Ukraine is indeed a political instrument, but this is the OCU. Thus, the MP of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and Protodeacon of the UOC Vadim Novinsky responded to the comment of the "Ukrainian Pravda" journalist regarding the politicization of the Russian and Ukrainian Orthodox Churches.
“The ‘Orthodox Church of Ukraine’ is a political instrument in Ukraine,” the MP replied. This is Poroshenko church in Ukraine, which was created artificially, a political institution that has nothing to do with spirituality. In other words, it’s a political organization with a religious name. This is absolutely clear to me."
It is true that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is part of the Russian Orthodox Church, noted Vadim Novinsky, but it is an independent Church with the broadest autonomy and rights.
“We have a spiritual connection with the Russian Orthodox Church, which cannot be interrupted. But what you say is a myth. I know what I'm talking about. This is a myth, mostly promoted by journalists, that our Church is overly politicized,” he stressed.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that, according to Vadym Novinsky, no institution in Ukraine has such a huge peacekeeping potential as the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, but the authorities do not use it at all.
