On July 30, a court will review Presidential Decree No. 820 of 2022, which enacted the decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) "On Certain Aspects of the Activities of Religious Organizations in Ukraine and the Application of Personal Special Economic and Other Restrictive Measures (Sanctions)," reports lawyer Archpriest Nikita Chekman.
The lawyer states that based on this document, sanctions were imposed against the hierarchs of the UOC, and a "religious examination" of the Statute of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was started. Additionally, inspections of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra were initiated, and the process of evicting monks from the monastery was launched.
Archpriest Nikita believes that this decree does not comply with the Constitution of Ukraine, and lawyers will be proving this in court.
As reported by the UOJ, on June 25, another hearing will be held in the case of the abbot of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, Metropolitan Pavel.
