On May 30, 2024, during a thunderstorm, lightning struck a tree in the courtyard of the Sofia Metropolis of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, according to news24sofia.eu.

Lightning struck a tree in the yard of the Sofia Metropolis in Kaloyan Street, where the building of the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church is located.

The lightning sheared off the top of a 30-meter tree that was planted in the seventies at the request of the then Patriarch of Bulgaria, Maxim.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that representatives of the Bulgarian Church concelebrated with "hierarchs" of the OCU in Istanbul.

Later, Bulgarian priests demanded that bishops who co-served with the "hierarchs" of the OCU be judged, while the faithful of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church believe that the hierarchs who concelebrated with the OCU on the Phanar violated the canons of the Church.
